Simple but colourful hand-made traditional Kokeshi doll with Geisha design made in the Kijiyama ‘funk collection’ style in the Tohoku region of Japan.
This pretty example is turned, scribed from one piece of wood and painted by hand with a highly detailed face/hair and striped kimono. On the back of this piece is some hand-painted Japanese writing (could be a poem).
Kokeshi are simple wooden toys that have been crafted for more than 150 years as children’s dolls, mementos and good luck charms. These simple but very decorative gems originate from Tohoku-chiho region of North-East Japan. Due to the many different sizes, shapes and designs available they look great as a collection.
