Fantastically coloured and aged storage trunk in vivid red coloured paint colour. This attractive box was made at the turn of the century and has visible signs of the original construction including great dovetail joints in each corner.
There is a sturdy handle on each side for transport and the lid is held in place by a catch-mechanism (probably the only non-original part). The cast metal letters on the front are W.H.LL H, perhaps the owner or company where this box was used.
This chest has been used for storage and bears the scars of use in perhaps an industrial environment, particularly with blemishes to the top which give it a great patina. In some areas, notably along the bottom ridge underneath the lid is even older green paint.
The trunk has been cleaned and waxed and is ready to use for storage or just as a lovely decorative piece. Unusually for a chest of this age, the original key is included which locks the top in place securely.
