Superbly-aged fireproof deeds or document box made at the turn of the century.
This functional document storage box was used to store important documents including deeds just over a century ago. The outer box is made from wood with great visible dove-tail joints in each corner. Inside the main box is a metal container and lid to ensure documents would survive a fire.
To open the lid, two pinch levers on each side need to be lifted so the lid can open. There are two sturdy handles on each side of the front and back, one on each side. There is a secure lock on the front (with no key) stamped with “Four level, Imperial Safe Guard“.
The front side is painted with the original owner’s name “F. Armitage Esquire” and dated 1916.
The whole trunk has great signs of age and use with blemishes to the paintwork, wear to the edges and corners of the paintwork/woodwork and tarnishing to the inside metal lining.
