Extra large Kokeshi doll created in the Sakunami style (in Miyagi Prefecture). This fantastically-shaped collectable doll is large-sized at 46cm and is hand-painted by the artist with bold coloured red and black chrysanthemum design.
This substantial piece is turned, scribed and painted by hand. It has the artists signature on the base and some Kanji writing on the rear of the doll.
Kokeshi are simple wooden toys that have been crafted for more than 150 years as children’s dolls, mementos and good luck charms. These simple but very decorative gems originate from Tohoku-chiho region of North-East Japan. Due to the many different sizes, shapes and designs available, they look great as a collection.
